Pass one: compare formula architecture

The reviewed COSRX list contains 11 ingredients. Propolis Extract is first, followed by a compact humectant and gel-forming system that includes butylene glycol, glycerin, betaine, sodium hyaluronate, and panthenol. The official page declares 83.3% propolis extract.

The reviewed Beauty of Joseon list contains 30 ingredients. Water, dipropylene glycol, glycerin, and butylene glycol precede Propolis Extract. The official page declares 60% propolis extract and 2% niacinamide, then lists betaine salicylate before a longer group of botanical extracts, humectants, formulation aids, tamanu seed oil, and tocopherol.

List length alone says nothing about quality. It does show that the two products organize the propolis story differently: one around a shorter propolis-forward base, the other around a broader water-based treatment formula.

Pass two: identify exact-name overlap

The reviewed lists share six exact INCI names: Propolis Extract, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Sodium Hyaluronate, and Carbomer. Those shared materials suggest overlapping hydration and gel-formulation jobs, but they do not prove equal concentration, texture, preservation strategy, absorption, or result.

The comparison workspace treats exact shared names as an orientation layer. It does not score one product higher for having fewer or more unique ingredients.

Pass three: read the meaningful differences

• COSRX: Propolis Extract is first and is the only declared percentage imported into the reviewed record.
• Beauty of Joseon: the water-and-glycol base comes first; propolis and niacinamide have declared percentages.
• Beauty of Joseon: betaine salicylate adds an exfoliating decision that is absent from the reviewed COSRX list.
• COSRX: betaine and panthenol appear in the compact list; neither fact alone predicts a better hydration result.

The Beauty of Joseon page also states that its formula contains 0.5% BHA and advises daytime sunscreen. Follow the current package and official directions rather than turning the eighth-place position of betaine salicylate into a concentration guess.

Pass four: apply the difference to a defined routine job

A useful decision begins with the job. Someone comparing a focused propolis-forward hydrating step is asking a different question from someone comparing a multi-purpose serum that also introduces niacinamide and an exfoliating ingredient. Neither question can be answered by the propolis percentage alone.

Check the rest of the routine. If another product already supplies a treatment step, the broader formula may duplicate it. If bee-derived materials are an individual concern, both products require the same caution despite their different list architecture. Patch testing and prior tolerance cannot guarantee a future reaction-free use.

Pass five: preserve what the comparison cannot tell you

Cosmetic ingredient order is generally descending by predominance under U.S. labeling rules, with flexibility for ingredients at 1% or less.
