The dominant lipid in the skin's cornified layer, responsible for forming the "mortar" between skin cells that keeps moisture in and irritants out. Ceramide NP (N-2-hydroxyethyl palmitamide) is the most common form used in skincare. Depleted by over-exfoliation, aging, and harsh cleansers. Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin and COSRX Balm are the canonical K-Beauty ceramide delivery vehicles. Works best alongside fatty acids and cholesterol in a 1:1:1 ratio.
