Tranexamic Acid

Originally a pharmaceutical hemostatic agent repurposed for topical brightening. Inhibits plasmin-dependent melanocyte activation — a different pathway than vitamin C or arbutin, making it valuable in combination. Well-tolerated and effective at 2–5%. A 4th Wave breakout active, popularized in Beauty of Joseon and Anua formulations.
